A new study shows that reducing CO2 emissions is not enough to off-set the global climate change. Even if future CO2 emissions would be compensated by more forests and other carbon sinks to get a net-zero level by about mid-century as proposed by the Paris agreement, future generations might not be able to survive. The study therefore suggests “negative emissions”, meaning that CO2 has to be extracted from the atmosphere.
