Green Collect, a social enterprise based in Melborne, is one among many businesses that found new ways of operating sustainable. The goal of these companies is to encounter social, economic, environmental and cultural issues at the same time. Green Collect charges companies for collecting hard-to-recycle waste which it then turns into a new product and sells it again to companies, schools or community groups. At the same time the company’s goal is to be self-sustaining by 2019 and to provide 60 percent of its jobs to socially disadvantaged people for whom it would otherwise be hard to get into employment. In part Green Collect still depends on external funding.
