€12m have been allocated for a research project that aims at reducing pollution and displacement of nature in urban areas. 37 organizations originating from 19 countries are working together in the ‘Connecting Nature’ project. The focus will be on the exploration of new ways to introduce new nature-based solutions in the form of floodable habitats, green walls, forests, wetlands, roof gardens and farms into urban areas. The project leader Dr Marcus Collier, assistant professor in botany at TCD’s School of Natural Sciences, stresses that the it “is not just about building climate resilience – it is about transforming cities for future generations.”
