Owners of Ford and Lincoln vehicles produced in the years 2010-2016, now have the opportunity to install the new Ford SmartLink system that adds connectivity features that were not available when the cars were bought. SmartLink is built around a 4G LTE-enabled device that plugs into a car’s OBD II port. These ports are standard on all cars sold in the U.S. The SmartLink system is paired with software that allows cars to access an app suite and a web portal to connect with a smartphone and external networks. The engine can be started and doors can be locked and unlocked via a smartphone. Thanks to the Verizon-enabled Wi-Fi hot spot up to eight devices can be supported.
