Researchers at the University of Cambridge, England, have found a way to produce hydrogen from biomass that neither requires large amounts of energy nor processing of the biomass itself. With car manufacturers constantly looking to establish hydrogen fuel cells, the challenge they are facing is that producing hydrogen is very energy-intensive. The team from Cambridge discovered a way that might pave the way for our cars to only emit water vapor and heat. The new technique involves the addition of catalytic nanoparticles to alkaline water contaning biomass, and simply exposing the solution to sunlight.
