40 parties, among them major companies such as Unilever, Danone or Coca-Cola, signed the “New Plastic Economy” initiative to reuse and recycle plastic packaging at the World Economic Forum in Davos. If properly implemented the initiative would see 70 percent of plastic packaging being reused and recycled globally. 20 percent of the world’s plastic packaging could be reused and 50 percent recycled. If anything is not being done, the oceans all over the world will contain more plastic than fish by 2050. The initiative is accompanied by an action plan based on the concept of a circular economy.
