NETRA (NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance), the R&D branch of NTPC Ltd, installed and developed the largest floating solar plant India has seen to date in cooperation with Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET) and Swelect Energy Systems Ltd. The ambitious project began operation on Friday at Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Plant (RGCCPP) Kayamkulam, Kerala.

Floating systems present an alternative to conventional systems that use up too much space on land. Futher installations of the kind are very likely as water bodies in the area are abundant. Additional benefits are better water conservation, elevated generation levels, and comparatively low installation time.
