Thanks to Lorry Wagner, president of the Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LeedCo), Cleveland might soon become a leader in renewable offshore wind energy. In 2019, Lake Erie will be the testing ground for one of hopefully many offshore wind farms in the region. The pilot project, Icebreaker, will deploy 479-foot-tall turbines developed by LeedCo and Icebreaker Windpower.

“But almost everybody who we bring to Cleveland to learn about our project, and they see Lake Erie for the first time, they say, ‘Holy crap, that’s an ocean out there,’” Wagner says.
