The oil and gas platforms currently located in the North Sea may now be used as hydrogen production and storage facilities. Multiple organizations such as Shell, Total, Siemens, Dutch research institute TNO are now working together to integrate the renewable energy infrastructure to the existing energy grid. Shallow waters and a lot of wind combine to make the North Sea as an ideal location for the British, Norwegian and Dutch wind parks. Apart from this several other alternatives are also being taken into considerations, for example gas-to-wire installations which may help save upto 1 million tonnes of CO2.
