11 Municipalities in Western Norway will get smart city lighting in the next two years. This was announced by Philips Lighting, who will install and control over 18,000 connected LED street lights by using its CityTouch lighting management system. The system is able to monitor energy consumption, control the intensity of the lighting during different days of the week, events or seasons and also detects faults that can therefore be eliminated much easier. Philips announced that through their LED lighting system CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than 1,100 tonnes annually.  The energy saving of up to 70 per cent will also help the respective communities map their energy consumption on a platfom, that allows to perspectively add more features to the municipalities’ strategy of becoming ‘smart cities’.
