The city of Phoenix, together with Arizona State University, is launching a public-private incubator focused on finding new uses for waste from textiles, food scraps, batteries and other materials. The program will be called RISN Incubator and is stationed at the university’s Resource Innovation and Solutions Network (RISN).
Searching for business models built on eliminating waste by continually cycling materials back through supply chains, the Incubator wants to put 40 percent of waste that would go to landfills to other uses, building a circular economy. Right now, structural limitations of local infrastructure are often hindering the scaling of waste-reduction efforts.
Companies that want to be part of the program can join an initial round of applications until July 24th. An associated design challenge will run from August through October.
