Renewable electricity supplier Tonik Energy and clean tech firm Powervault are collaborating to bring energy storage units to households with smart meters in the UK to reduce costs for electricity in conjunction with a smart electricity tariff model. The project is to function as a proof of concept for a system that stores energy during off-peak times such as during the night, and then provides this cheap energy during times of peak demand. The companies claim that this model could decrease electricity costs of homeowners by up to 35 percent.
