Purley, a suburb in Croydon England, has become a safe community for people with dementia. In January this year, it was designated a dementia-friendly community. The community provides free training for locals to better recognize, understand and assist people with dementia. Businesses are equipped with stickers displaying the Alzheimer’s Society forget-me-nots flower logo. They are date-stamped in order to encourage business owners to maintain standards. 220 communities in England and Wales have been designated as dementia-friendly by the Alzheimer’s Society. Now London should become the world’s first dementia-friendly capital.
