The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) published numbers last week showing that renewable energy sources provided 19.35 percent of net US electrical generation in the first quarter of 2017, highly exceeding expectations. According to the EIA, they had calculated similar levels for around only 2057, 40 years from now.

The same report puts hydropower at 8.67%, wind power at 7.10%, biomass at 1.64%, solar only at 1.47%, and geothermal at 0.47%.

“Not only has renewable energy’s share of total domestic electrical generation nearly doubled in the past seven years, it has reached a level of output that EIA — just five years ago — did not anticipate happening for another four decades,” remarks Ken Bossong, Executive Director of the SUN DAY Campaign.
