The European Environment Agency published a new report (Renewable energy in Europe 2017: recent growth and knock-on effects) providing information on the EU energy mix and its focus on renewables.

The European Union has set the long-term goal of acquiring one fifth of its energy from renewable resources, and is successfully displacing fossil fuels one project at a time. The share of renewables of the energy mix in Europe has risen from 15 percent in 2013 to 16 percent in 2014, then rising again to 16.7 percent in 2015. The report has calculated that the increase in renewables has led to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent since 2005.
