Making Wave Power Work, a new report by wave technology developer Marine Power Systems (MPS) on the economic viability and environmental potential for harnessing wave power through to 2050, suggests that wave power could cover 10 percent of the world’s energy needs by 2050.
The report goes on to say that this only works if industry and government act as a united front to accelerate technology development and the sector is provided with a stable policy environment. But then, even if energy demand doubles by mid-century, as projections say it will, wave power could be a major player.
“With £450m already invested in the sector, the UK is well placed to become a global leader in marine renewables,” the report adds.
