At the University of Sydney, sustainability is taught and researched with the clear goal to make a difference in the world. Manfred Lenzen, professor of sustainability research at the university’s Integrated Sustainability Analysis (ISA) research cluster, coordinates the postgraduate Sydney Sustainability Programme, in the framework of which students are encouraged to dive into the links between environmental, social and economic issues.

“The people who teach in the Sydney Sustainability Programme don’t just do so for the sake of knowledge,” he says. “They teach to make a difference in the world, through their own research as well as by equipping our students with the skills to change the world when they leave university.”
