Rio de Janeiro announced it is going to create a permanent Office of Sustainability and Resilience within Rio’s government. It is an important step towards formalizing resilience. Each city’s action to integrate resilience into specific plans, policies and government functions continue to accelerate a global mainstreaming of urban resilience. The new office will lead and coordinate city agencies to ensure their work complies the goals of resilience and sustainability. Thus the city is able to implement initiatives of the Resilience Strategy across all sectors e.g. waste, water management or transportation.
