With cancer being one of the deadliest disease known to the socitey, robots may become the latest weapons in the fight against cancer using invasive attack against the cancer cells by employing an army of microrobots. Researchers at Phillips in Hamburg, Germany have come up with a latest discovery of being able to control single and multiple with external magnets. If it can be made possible to inject these microrobots into the body and control these from outside with an aim to perform targeted functions and deliver therapeutic agents in a minimally invasive manner, it can lead to tremendous amount of success in even the most complex diseases. Lead researcher Jürgen Rahmer says, “Our method may enable complex manipulations inside the human body.” He also belives that this robotic swarm could be used in future to treat cancer with precision and without any side effects by making the microrobots to carry cancer killing radioactive “seeds” and deliver them specifically inside cancer tumors.
