Kenya plans to launch a 150 million USD project to supply markets, schools, shops and homes in poor and off-grid areas with electricity. The project will most probably be supported by a World Bank funding in March. Mini-grid solar plants will be brought to 14 counties which have been categorised as marginalised by the Kenyan government. The mini-grid plants are the cleanest and most cost effective way of delivering power to sparsely populated and poor areas. Settlements with 300-400 inhabitants can be supplied by those systems. More than 400 registered companies can fulfil solar energy contracts, more than 300 technicians are trained and approved by the government to support the systems.
