Santiago’s subway system to be powered by wind and solar

The subway system of the city of Santiago, Chile’s capital, will become the world’s first to be powered mostly by renewable energy sources. According to the country’s president, Michelle Bachelet, 60% of the energy demand of the transportation system will be met by solar and wind energy in the near future.
