The city is suffering the seventh consecutive day of heavy smog which is a result of farmers in India’s northern plains setting fire to their fields combined with revellers setting off firecrackers to mark the Diwali festival. The people in the city are struggling to cope with the toxic air pollution. Authorities declared an “emergency situation”. Some residents said they were even forced to take their families out of Delhi because of health concerns.
