Singapore has announced its most ambitious target for solar energy generation to date. Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) said that country has set a goal to reach a capacity of 2 gigawatts peak (GWp) by 2025.
Should Singapore achieve that, a quarter of its energy demands would be met through solar within eight years, a study by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore found.
To get there, sides of skyscrapers might be turned into solar energy-producing panels, and research is going into floating solar technology to expand the space solar panels can be built on.
