Cyberview spearheads long-term development strategies and activities in close collaboration with relevant national organisations. In addition to this, Cyberview also manages Cyberjaya’s day-to-day operations including its marketing and promotions to attract investments and strengthening an ecosystem fully equipped with resources, infrastructure and talent. Other services by Cyberview include industry development initiatives; enterprise, talent and clusters development; tech hub development and management services; consultation, township management and planning, physical development, and properties and facilities management.

As the appointed steward of Cyberjaya and an enabler of global tech hubs with a solid track record rooted in collaboration, Cyberview is now taking Cyberjaya’s 20 years of innovation success to the next level, towards becoming Malaysia’s Capital of Creation, based on three key strategies:

  • Strengthening foundational network comprising of infrastructure, incentives, talent, and community
  • Driving collaboration with ecosystem partners
  • Driving investments in strategic focus areas

  • Cyberjaya Smart City – Malaysia’s Global Technology Hub

Cyberjaya was launched on 17 May 1997 as a fully integrated city and Malaysia’s pioneer ICT hub. In 2014, the global tech hub blueprint was launched with the mission to elevate Cyberjaya’s position into a global tech hub. This initiative aims to create high technology jobs for Malaysians and to make Cyberjaya a preferred investment hub for technology companies while reaffirming Cyberjaya’s existing position as a premier ICT location.

To do this, we identified two pillars for the years to come that will uphold this aspiration:

  • Creation of Cyberjaya as a Smart City
  • Cyberjaya as a Living Lab for smart city solutions

Cyberview Living Lab and Smart City initiatives are smart collaborative projects which:

  • Enable the application of technologies by industry in Cyberjaya
  • Allows the testing of technologies in a city environment
  • Transforms Cyberjaya into a city for piloting projects
  • Allows citizens to participate in technology projects in the city

Under the Cyberjaya Smart City Framework, Smart City Solutions will be developed to enhance the liveability of Cyberjaya across four categories:-

  • Environment
  • Infrastructure
  • Economy
  • Social

Under the Cyberview Living Lab Initiative, we aim to transform Cyberjaya into a sandbox for Malaysian innovators, entrepreneurs and startups under 4 programmes:-

  • Living Lab Talent

Grooms talent from the young and impressionable to aspiring university students. The Lab works with academia on the supply and quality of talents to meet the requirements of the ecosystem.

  • Living Lab Accelerator

Expedites innovation of technology solutions to the next level through intensive coaching, networking and marketing programmes.

  • Living Lab Pilot

A platform to test and validate proof of concepts and prototypes fit for commercialization. The Pilot Living Lab works with various partners of our ecosystem.

  • Living Lab Enterprise

Partners with networks of agencies, industry experts, leaders and networks of special interest groups to provide scoped industry support. Industry updates, technical upskilling, funding access facilitations and market access.

Cyberview invites collaborators to participate in Cyberjaya’s journey as part and parcel of Malaysia’s aspirations towards becoming a high income economy rooted in digital innovation.

  • Cyberjaya as a ‘Living Lab’ for Internet of Things (IoT)

Malaysia unveiled its National IoT Strategic Roadmap in 2015, aiming to create a conducive IoT industry ecosystem to foster the development, diffusion, and adoption of IoT technologies. With Cyberjaya as a ‘living lab’ for Malaysia’s IoT applications, the capabilities of technopreneurs can be strengthened and the generation of globally-competitive IoT products and services can be fostered. Since Cyberjaya is a city with a substantial residential population, IoT pioneers will be able to both directly benefit the residents with their projects, as well as gain insights into the realities and challenges of wide-scale implementation.

Cyberview’s CoInnov8, a collaborative centre for smart city development, is an initiative and incentive programme with the above objective in mind, providing a platform to support innovators from the ground up through various offerings within the ecosystem to grow an IoT solution. The Centre is also powered by the City Innovation Council aimed at providing endorsement, assistance and guidance to start-ups and SMEs seeking to test out prototypes and concepts that could be of value to the city. Members of the Council are Cyberview, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre, Sepang Municipal Council, Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission and Setia Haruman, Cyberjaya’s Master Developer.

The council was setup to:

  • Guide the smooth implementation of Cyberjaya Smart City Projects
  • Identify emerging challenges and strategic opportunity for the city
  • Put in place the drivers and enablers that will provide opportunities for technology advancement in Cyberjaya
  • Create the conditions and platform for attracting and accelerating investment in the city
  • Provide recommendation and overall guidance and direction to the initiatives
  • The go-to point of contact to innovate on IoT
  • One-of-a-kind setup that is not offered anywhere else.

4.0 Cyberjaya as the first Southeast Asian smart city to be connected to a citywide LoRa network

Cyberview and Atilze Digital are working together to build, operate and commercialise a city-wide long range (LoRa) network to elevate Cyberjaya towards being a ‘Living Lab’ to nurture and grow IoT talents and businesses through LoRa network. Any company who has ready IoT applications can integrate their IoT applications to be LoRa enabled and implemented on Cyberjaya LoRa network. This includes intelligent street lighting, tracker, car parking records, environmental records including air quality, temperature, humidity, water quality, water level for flooding, hill slope/landslide) and meter reading (for water, electric, gas).

The IoT applications on air quality monitors can be used to measure and determine the Air Pollution and Air Quality Index, providing better information on real time city air quality sensor reading. Between March to April 2017, sensors will be installed at 10 locations around Cyberjaya, with PM2.5 Air Sensor which is able to scan and detect smaller dust particles. Public dashboard and open API data will be made available to the public to keep the community more informed. Workshops will be carried out for information-sharing with ecosystem partners for their applications and systems to be LoRa-enabled and implemented in our network.
