Sonnen, a German energy storage specialist, is expecting electricity costs in Germany to fall to record lows soon because of renewable energy projects flooding the market. This would cause an uplift in storage, benefitting the company that just doubled the amount of people its sonnenCommunity platform for energy exchange reaches. The shift is considered likely as electricity prices have gone negative a few times since May 2016.
The company not only faces competition from big brands like Tesla, but utilities as well, as E.ON and Solarwatt are now offering residential battery systems in Germany.
