Speculation about Volvo producing EVs in the near future

Volvo has filed an European trademark applications that suggest the company is planning a selection of new models and versions of existing cars. The applications are especially for electric vehicles which leads to the speculation it is going to produce EVs in the near future. In April 2016, the Volvo chief executive, Håkan Samuelsson, said that Volvo intends to sell up to one million electric-assisted vehicles by 2025 and will release its first all-electric vehicle in 2019. Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platforms both support hybrid and fully-electric technologies, so its the perfect basis to produce electric models.
