Will the future of US airports lie in private hands? Image source: Shutterstock (#270828467).

St. Louis is looking into privatizing its airport’s operation. After the former mayor considered doing so as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Privatization Pilot Program. Now new mayor Lydra Krewson is creating an advisory team to decide whether this course of action makes sense.

Right now, most airports, at least in the US, are publicy owned and operated, thus relying on federal funding, meaning that revenues cannot be spent freely. Privatizing an airport allows it to invest its revenues in much broader ways, and St. Louis might soon show others how it is done.
