With wireless devices now being part and parcel of modern lifestyle, many devices lack the basic built-in security features and leave the consumers vulnerable to hacks and attacks. The non-profit consumer watchdog, Consumer Reports is planning to roll out a rating system to appliances and other connected devices based on whether the device manufacturer, software company or mobile app took the appropriate steps to protect consumer’s privacy and security. “We think it’s unfair and unrealistic to expect consumers to constantly play defense when the products and services they use aren’t engineered with basic privacy and security protections built in,” Consumer Report said.
