Subaru Corp. is planning to partner with Autoliv Inc. in order to use the latter’s stereo cameras for its driver-assist system. Hitachi has been the sole supplier for almost a decade now but Autoliv’s EyeSight system after having won highest safety ratings in Japan and the US appears to be a lucrative alternate for Hitachi systems. The decision is expected to be taken in the next two months. The first driver-assist system to use only stereo cameras to detect objects such as vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists etc., EyeSight plans to add full autonomous capabilities, including the capability of changing lanes by 2020.
