Tesla’s Elon Musk has announced his company, in association with French energy utility Neoen, will build the world’s largest lithium ion battery in South Australia. The 129MWh battery will store renewable energy near Jamestown, and will be paired with Neoen’s Hornsdale windfarm to provide security of electricity supplies across the state of South Australia.
The ambitious project is a key part of the state government’s $550 million energy plan. “South Australia is tackling climate change head-on and should be congratulated for its innovation and leadership as it transforms our energy system into one that’s clean, affordable, efficient and secure,” Tim Flannery of the Climate Council had to say.
