CleanTechnica conducted a survey among electric car drivers from America, Canada and Europe to identify the most sought after incentives automakers can offer to win more customers for electric vehicles. With the respondents being separated into Tesla drivers, pure-electric but non-Tesla drivers, and drivers of plug-in hybrids, the results were diverse.

The most popular choice, particularly in North America, was cash with 17–56% of respondents choosing the option. Europeans, due to high parking fees in their home countries, more often opted for free charging and/or free parking. Access to HOV/bus lanes and free home charging stations also got 7–18% of the votes respectively.

What can be seen is that potential customers put high value on convenience, and policymakers, utilities, and automakersshould make use of incentives like these to win over a broader portion of the population.
