People around the world are living longer and thereby the requirements for their surrounding environment change. City planners have to take the demographic change into account when developing sustainable cities. Social isolation is encountered by community-based housing projects as one of the responses. These projects however are facing challenges such as increasing costs for housing, the reluctance of elderly to relocate or financing urban infrastructure for older people. To overcome these challenges and to create inclusive societies is however vital.
