One year after adopting the Sustainable Development Goals, measures are put into practice especially at the local level. 17 goals have an explicitly urban focus. But nearly all goals imply local authorities to play a key role. Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, ending poverty and hunger, ensure access to water and sanitation requires strong local involvement. A Copenhagen-based organization calles “Sustainia” has released its annual Cities100 report that shows urban ideas that contribute to achieve the Sustainable Goals. These three cities are presented as good examples for local progess on the SDGs. Bogotá is a good example of turning waste into energy and social value. Tshwane in South Africa is producing sustainable and organic food. And Toronto shows how communities can become climate resilient.
