A team at Ohio State University have developed a process to produce car tires partially from eggshells and tomato skins. The environmentally friendly tires could replace carbon black tires, and therefore reduce dependence on oil. The required ingredients are abundant and using them to make tires even reduces the waste that ends up in landfills.

The prototypes the researchers built outperformed regular tires in tests, showing tremendous potential. The patent-pending technology is licensed to EnergyEne.
