The navigation and mapping company TomTom has aquired the German start-up Autonomous in order to add more autonomous driving technologies to its platform. Autononmous has already worked in the R&D consultancy for different self-driving projects. The team will work on map-based products for autonomous driving applications including HD maps, RoadDNA localisation technology and navigation, traffic and other cloud services. The acquisition of Autonomous is supposed to strengthen the company’s capabilities for future (autonomous) driving. The financial aspects of the deal have not been disclosed yet.
