From January until October 2016 the demand for alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) in the EU rose by 4,7 percent which were 440,238 in total numbers. Almost 4 percent of total passenger car registration were made for AFVs this year. Most of these vehicles were registered in Italy. 112,049 of the registered vehicles run on natural gas (NGV), LPG and ethanol. The biggest number of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) were registered in Great Britain (40,767 units). Norway is still leading when it comes to the electrically chargeable vehicles (ECV). 33,868 new vehicles were registered in the first nine months in 2016.
