Toyota Motor Corporation and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) have joined hands by bringing in Toyota’s vehicle use case knowledge base and NTT’s ICT experience in order to develop, verify and standardize the connected car technologies by making use of the big data collected from vehicles. The research aims at developing technologies necessary for solving issues such as congestion, accidents etc. There will be four main collaborative areas, Platform for data collection, accumulation and analysis, IoT (Internet of Things) networks and data centers, Next-gen communication technologies using 5G, edge computing etc. and Agents. With the field trials expected to begin in 2018, the four NTT companies which are participating in the collaboration are NTT DATA Corporation, NTT Communications Corporation, NTT DOCOMO and NTT.
