Researchers at the University of Manchester, England, have developed a method to make drinking water out of salt water using graphene. While the desalination properties of the wonder material were known, a problem persists with swelling of the membrane. The team has found an effective and scalable way to restrict that swelling.
Although the project is only in the proof-of-concept stage, there is confidence that through cooperation with companies the concept can be translated to real world applications. This could help supply drinking water to millions of people who lack access.
