A new research study published last week in the journal PlOS One, finds that floods could occur several times a week on average by 2045 along the mid-Atlantic coastline. In this region the sea level has been rising faster than anywhere else. Washington and Annapolis could be struck by more than 120 high tide floods every year by 2045 or one flood every three days. The North American East Coast experienced sea level rises at more than twice the global rate from 2002 to 2014. The study did not take into account the West Coast because flooding problems are less widespread even though the San Francisco Bay Area is vulnerable.
