At the United Nations World Data Forum in Cape Town over 1400 delegated came together. As a result, the Cape Town Global Action Plan for Sustainable Development was decided. It calls for international commitment to modernize national statistical systems and focus on infrastructure building and the capacity to support statistical requirements on all levels, including cities. The lack of data makes it nearly impossible to find new suitable development initiatives that help to reach the Sustainable Development Goals. Especially countries from the global South have a huge gap in basic information like births and deaths. For first time, governments pledge to bolster data systems at all levels.
