Unilever’s plastic packaging will be fully reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. The company has already committed to reduce the weight of the packaging by one third by 2020 and increase the use of recycled plastic content in packaging by 25 percent by 2025 compared to 2015. Only 14 percent of the plastic packaging worldwide is recycled at the moment. By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean if changes are not made. Treating plastic packaging as a valuable resource to be managed efficiently and effectively is a key priority in achieving Sustainable Development Goal number 12 which includes Sustainable Consumption & Production.
