United Arab Emirates plan to highly invest in renewable energy

The United Arab Emirates intend to invest 163 billion USD in renewable energy projects so that half of the nation’s power is generated by renewables. This target should be achieved by 2050. Strategically the Emirates want to balance economic needs against environmental goals. Especially the solar power potential is very high in the UAE so they are eager to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum hopes that by 2050 44 percent of the country’s energy needs will be provided by renewables (38 percent from gas, 12 percent from cleaner fossil fuel and 6 percent from nuclear energy.
