The city of Edmonton, Canada, codified a number of best practices for efficient and environmentally-friendly city design that considers low temperatures. Among these are adding built and natural environment to slow and redirect wind and installing heating devices at popular transit stations, among many others. The overall goal is to make use of design to block wind, and at the same time to maximize sun exposure. Morever measures aim at stimulating the winter landscape with color and light and to winterize infrastructure.
