The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) launched two new programs for their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification and rating system, the LEED for Cities and the LEED for Communities. The USGBC is cooperating with Green Business Certification Inc. to host those two systems on a technology platform called Arc. On Arc, users have access to a variety of rating systems, not just the LEED ones.
The goal is help cities and communities become more sustainable, resilient and livable through comparison and competition. LEED for Cities and the LEED for Communities oberserve developments in energy, water, waste, transportation and human experience, and scores participants accordingly. The cities can then share their progress to help other communities all over the world.
