Volvo Cars is planning to join hands with Google for the development of an Android-based infotainment system. Volvo said that the system will feature a variety of apps from Google, Volvo and even third parties and will be available in two years. With this system, the users will not have to connect their smartphones in order to use the system like they do with Google Auto or Apple CarPlay at present. “Google’s platform and services will enhance the user experience by enabling more personalization possibilities, while Android will offer increased flexibility from a development perspective,” Henrik Green, senior VP, R&D at Volvo said. Google had showcased it infotainment system earlier this year which was developed by Qualcomm and Panasonic and was featured in  Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Uconnect infotainment concept.
