Finland has one of the best education systems worldwide. It is one of the highest performing developed countries on the PISA even though it dropped to rank 12. What makes the Finnish education system so successful and commendable can be summarized in four features. First Finnish students only take one standardized test during their entire primary and secondary schooling. Regulary tests create a “teaching to the test” environment in schools. Secondly students have more time play. Thirdly college is for free and last but not least teaching is one of the most revered professions with a relatively high barrier to entry. Teachers are treated as university professors and do work less compared to other countries in order to have more time to prepare their lessons.
