World’s first ‘tidal hydrogen’

Researchers produced the first hydrogen that was generated from electricity by tidal energy. The first ‘tidal hydrogen’ was produced at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. As hydrogen production is energy intense in the making, tidal energy and renewable clean energy sources could be real game changers. Hydrogen is promising to substitute fossil fuel generated devices, because it emits no carbon making it a carbon neutral fuel source.

The extracted hydrogen will be sent to the Scottish mainland where the hydrogen will be converted back to electricity to power ferries.
