Chemical engineers at ETH Zürich have developed the ‘greenest green’ which is important for the future development of ultra high-definition displays. Chih-Jen Shih, the chemical engineering professor who devleoped the light-emitting diode says, “to date, no one has succeeded in producing green light as pure as we have.” For developing more effective UHD displays for TVs, computers, and smartphones, purest blue, red and green light is necessary. Blue and red has been achieved by scientist, whereas green has been a challenge up to date. The diode is also able to emit light at room temperature, whereas other LED technology requires high temperatures; this being helpful to produce high-green diodes at low-cost.
