Digital India: Key Player in the Smart Cities Mission

The campaign launched by the Government of India with an aim to move towards cashless economy, ‘Digital India’ has now emerged as a key player in the smart cities mission and according to Mr. P. P. Chaudhary, MoS, Electronics and IT, intiatives and schemes such as Aadhaar, digital lockers etc. are playing a major role in the smart cities mission. In a three-day summit organised by the ASAPP Info Global Group, Smart Cities Council India and the India-China Economic and Cultural Council it is expected that by June 2017, projects worth Rs. 20,669 crore are expected to flourish. While the Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of China, Liu Jinsong stressed on learning and replicating the century-old models of the ancient well planned cities of the Indus Valley Civilization, Harappa and Mohenjodaro and he thinks that building small and medium cities is a much better way to handle city management instead of building larger ones. the summit was attended by the smart city comissioners, city CEOs, urban planning consultants, and senior official from organizations like Microsoft, tat Projects, Intel, Ola, Philips and many more.
