The first ever published State of The Sector Report 2017 by Community Energy England and Community Energy Wales reveals that 222 community energy projects are operation renewable energy schemes that come up to the collective capacity of 121MW, or the equivalent to the domestic consumption of 85,500 homes. When combined with Scotland’s collective energy capacity, the UK community energy sector can power 130,000 homes. As the rport reveals, decentralised power installations run by community groups have helped to reduce CO2 emissions by 110,000 tonnes by delivering renewable electricity generation.

New low-carbon technologies that are decentralised and empower communities to contribute to sustainable energy markets are key factors for future discussion on energy reliability.
